2020 has been the most stressful year for HR leaders. The pandemic forced businesses to adapt in a variety of ways and keep businesses open while physically distancing employees from one another.

HR was asked to make a lot of hard decisions (e.g. restructuring, transforming, layoffs, remote work), communicate those to employees and execute them. They suffered from compassion fatigue by showing empathy to multiple people in a short amount of time.

Although the pandemic is not yet over, HR leaders must respond to the ‘now’ while driving the ‘new normal’.

As an HR leader, you need to be able to understand burnout in yourself.

  • Are you losing your motivation?
  • Are you having cognitive problems such as concentration, memory, and speech?
  • Are you starting to experience negative emotions like sadness or anger?
  • Do you feel physically, mentally or emotionally exhausted from your job?
  • Is your work performance dropping?
  • Is it starting to cause interpersonal problems such as arguments with co-workers, or issues with friendships or relationships?
  • Are you losing interest in activities that you would normally enjoy?
  • Are you developing physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach pains or sleep disorder?

You don’t have to be a hero all the time.
